Private alpha & beta testers have been using, and helping us refine, Defensio since early June 2007. The service was opened up to the public on November 7, 2007.

Defensio was created because we hate spam, in all its incarnations, and with all its ramifications. When several prominent bloggers noted that comment spam was becoming overly burdensome, we threw the Defensio machine into gear and started coding our Ruby hearts out. That’s right, we’re a Ruby on Rails and Merb shop, and proud of it – so much so, in fact, that we instigated Montreal on Rails .

Defensio was originally developed by Karabunga Inc and is now part of the Websense family. The team is based just outside of Montreal, Canada.
